Glass Spoon

What interested me the most in this painting was how the water breaks the shape of the spoon. This still life was set up on a small table.

Orange Blue Reflections

My favorite part in this painting is of course the reflection on the metal cup. 

Persimmon Reflections

Hope this little kitchen scene is showing my joy of observing reflections.

Pear Family

I could not resist another painting of pears - they are one of my favorite fruits to paint. Reds balanced out with greens seem to make for a vibrant and harmonious painting.

Limonade

The complementary colors really helped to keep this alive and vibrant. It was fun to paint the different reflected highlights such as light blue from the spot light and "orangey spots" bouncing off from the table cloth.

Two Turnips

These turnips had tops and bottoms trimmed to be stored for the winter. I love how the tiny green top re-sprouted. Of course the fun part was the cast shadow of this green symbol of life. 

Red and Orange

This Pomegranate had all colors from pink to orange to purple. I find that the color red with all its nuances is still a struggle for me. I guess I need to paint more red fruits and veggies ...

The Enlightened Cherry

Do you see how the light hits the edge of the cherry that is sitting in the bowl's cast shadow? Being separated from the giggly group huddling together in the cherry comfort bowl, this one is meditating about the deeper meaning of its existence. I think this cherry has leadership quality and is going to teach the others about the new found truth of cherry-existence....

Crepe Myrtle

These flowers from a shrub turned out to be a challenge in terms of front and back. I learned from observing this still life that it is very important to nuance the colors according to back ground, middle and foreground. When I sat in front of this still life, the pinks of the flowers seemed the same. Now looking at the finished painting I see that different tones, cooler in the back and warmer in the front could have made this mass of pink more three dimensional. Wow, flowers are so amazing!!!

Meditation Under Red Umbrella

Here is my friend in quiet concentration, taking it all in, filtering it, putting her personal interpretation on canvas - recreating reality... being in the moment with deep focus... I call it a form of meditation, an incredible experience. This is why we are coming back to paint outdoors. All you plein-air painters out there agree?

Orange on Blue

This is an example of a bad photo that does not give the real impression of the original painting - too much contrast that causes the slices to look as if they have a white frame around them, all subtle greys and light blues are lost. Unfortunately this has to fill in for today as other things are calling me away from what I like to do most which is JUST PAINT!! .... hoping to sneak in a painting very soon...

Ready to Scramble!

...and today for breakfast ... a gift from our own chickens!
